So I did not get too far in my event. I think it was level 4 when I limped in with 9-9. There were 6 other limpers and the flop came Kh, 9d, 4c. Player 1 bet $1000, players 2,3,4 folded, I raised to $2500, all others folded to player 9 who went all-in. Player 1 folded and I called also putting me all-in.
He turned over 2 pair so I thought I was good with my three 9s. He showed Kd, 4d and the turn and river were both diamonds to end my tournament with a backdoor flush. Poker is such an unfair game at times.
I played some smaller tournaments in various casinos while in town including
Stratosphere, Excalibur, Luxor, MGM, Mont Carlo, Alladin, Harrahs, Venetian and The Orleans. The last casino is interesting because the poker room is literally surrounded by mirrors. It is very hard to protect your cards!! I also played some cash games and did better in the cash games than the tournaments.
I made some notes which I have since thought about since returning to California. Int he tournaments I was going deep and just missing the money. I put this down to my eagerness to not just limp into the money but to attack during the bubble so I could make the decent money. But I made my moves with weak hands, especially mid-pairs (77, 88,99) which almost always lost the race against overcards. So I have added to my poker knowledge the following thought. Slow down near the bubble. Still try to attack but do so with decent (high card, high pair) type hands and skip the mid-pairs. I will see if this makes any difference.
